School updates

Attendance

Our current attendance stands at 91.6%, compared with 95.92% nationally. We are pleased to see some improvement, but there is still work to do. Families may receive letters highlighting lower attendance levels, which are intended to guide and support. If there are specific issues affecting your child’s attendance, please do arrange a meeting with your class teacher, Mrs Gooding, Mr Allen or myself so that we can work together to help.

Year 6 SATs

Congratulations to our Year 6 pupils for their excellent attitude during SATs week. They demonstrated resilience, concentration and determination throughout the assessments, and we are incredibly proud of the effort they showed.

Year 6 transition

Children moving on to Anthony Gell School will attend transition sessions throughout June and July, with additional support available for pupils with SEND. We will also hold whole-school ‘moving up’ sessions to help all children prepare for their new classes in September.

Community and events

Compass coffee morning

Our Compass Coffee Morning will take place on Thursday 11th June from 9–10am. This will be an opportunity to meet Nat Coxon from Compass and find out more about the support available for children and families.

Trumpet concert

Families of Year 4 and Year 5 children are invited to a Trumpet Concert on Friday 17th July at 9am in the Village Hall. The children have worked extremely hard learning this new instrument and we look forward to sharing their progress.

Online safety

The final online safety session of the year with Traci Good and I-Vengers will take place on 18th June at 6pm. This session will provide a recap of previous workshops and offer further guidance for parents and carers.

Important reminders

Sun safety

Please ensure children bring a named sunhat to school and have sun cream applied before the school day begins. Children may bring their own named sun cream, but should be able to apply it independently.

Choking hazards

Following recent news stories, we would like to remind families about the importance of cutting foods such as grapes, tomatoes, blueberries and small sausages into halves or quarters. Even older children can be at risk from these common choking hazards.

Make-up in school

Children should not wear make-up or nail art in school. Exceptions may be made for discos or charity dress-up days. Thank you for your support with this.

After-school clubs

Please note that after-school clubs will not run on:

  • Tuesday 23rd June
  • Friday 10th July
  • The final week of term beginning 20th July

Breakfast Club will continue to run as normal.

Whole school production

Preparations are well underway for our whole-school production of Hoodwinked!

To help our youngest children, Puffins families are invited to attend the matinee performance. Children in Years 2 to 6 should return to school for both evening performances on 23rd and 24th June. We know this is a busy time for families and thank everyone in advance for their support.

Sports Day and Summer Fayre

We are delighted to invite families to our Sports Day and Summer Fayre on Friday 10th July, beginning at 1.30pm. Please bring a chair or blanket and join us for what promises to be a wonderful afternoon.

Should poor weather intervene, an alternative date has been arranged for Friday 17th July.

Friends of Middleton are currently planning the Summer Fayre and would welcome any offers of help. Please contact the school office if you would like to get involved.
